Chapter 19 A Room Full of Spring
at broke out on Li Yun’s forehead; could there be a night visit of a newlywed bride She glanced at the person who said that, but he didn’t seem to notice. He was still talking with someone next to him...Chapter 19 Spring Light in One Room
Rong Jing watched as Yun Qianyue softly collapsed to the ground but did not catch her, instead sitting still on his chair. Under the hazy indoor lighting, his jade-like face was shrouded by a layer of mist, making it impossible to discern any emotion.
After a long while, Rong Jing spoke out loud, "Qingsang, come in and clear up the table!"
"Yes, Young Master!" Qingsang walked from afar, pushed open the door, and was about to step inside when she saw someone lying on the ground. She froze for a moment, then, upon recognizing it was Yun Qianyue, she was startled and looked up at Rong Jing, "Young Master, Miss Qianyue...
"Just clear everything away," Rong Jing instructed.
"Yes!" Qingsang circled around Yun Qianyue to enter the room, clearing away leftover dishes from the table. She took the trash and left in a bowing posture, stopping at the doorway for a moment and glancing back at Rong Jing before leaving again.
The door closed, and silence fell once more inside the room.
Rong Jing remained seated on his chair, staring motionlessly at Yun Qianyue.
After some time, he spoke up to the outside with a gentle voice, "Old Medicine!"
"Young Master" Old Medicine came to the door.
"How much sleep-inducing powder did you put in Yixue" Rong Jing asked.
"According to your instructions, I placed one package," replied Old Medicine. Just as Rong Jing was about to nod in agreement, he heard him add: "But the day before yesterday, Qingquan was naughty and mixed in midnight sleep powder...
Rong Jing's body shot up from his seated position, demanding, "How much midnight sleep powder did you mix"
"Half..." Old Medicine’s body trembled slightly as he answered weakly.
“Qingquan...” Rong Jing's face suddenly darkened.
"Young Master, I... I didn’t know that the sleep-inducing powder was for Miss Qianyue to use..." Qingquan’s voice sounded like it might cry as she nervously spoke from outside. "I thought you no longer needed those two medicines since your health has improved now...
The sleep-inducing powder can only make one sleep for a day and night, but the midnight sleep powder is different; it lets one sleep for three days and nights. It’s even more effective on people with martial arts skills; without them, it makes one sleep for seven to eight days. These two medicines were developed by Old Medicine long ago so that Rong Jing could get proper rest. Due to his cold poison, he couldn’t sleep well each night, but the sleep-inducing powder allowed him to have a peaceful half-night’s sleep every day. The sleep-inducing powder was initially effective, but later it became ineffective, thus midnight sleep powder was developed. For years, he relied on the warm jade bed and these two powders for his sleep.
"Forget it! You can go down now. It won’t be bad if she sleeps for another couple of days!" Rong Jing suddenly smiled and spoke to the outside.
Qingquan’s crying sound immediately came.
Old Medicine cautiously asked in a low voice, "Young Master, why did you give Miss Qianyue sleep-inducing powder"
Rong Jing was silent.
After waiting for some time and not receiving an answer from Rong Jing, Old Medicine knew he wouldn’t get any information out of him. He patted Qingquan on the back to snap her out of it; she turned to look at him as he gave a signal with his eyes, and she nodded before they left the door.
After walking some distance away, Qingquan lowered his voice and asked, "Old Medicine, have you figured out why Young Master gave Miss Qianyue sleep-inducing powder It’s obvious that Miss Qianyue is now getting along better with our Young Master. Why would he do this She might get furious once she wakes up."
“I’m also puzzled!” Old Medicine was equally baffled.
Incurably curious, Qingquan saw Qingsang coming out of the kitchen carrying a tray of food that seemed to be for Xiangge. He quickly ran over and stopped her, whispering, "Sister, do you know why Young Master gave Miss Qianyue sleep-inducing powder"
“I don’t know!” Qingsang shook her head.
"You really don't know" Qingquan didn’t believe it. He felt that among those who followed the young master, his sister with her meticulous nature was better at guessing the Young Master's intentions than Brother Xiangge who had been by the Young Master’s side for a long time. His sister just came out of the Young Master’s room looking worried, so she must know something.
“Knowing doesn’t help if you can’t do anything about it! You ruined the Young Master's affairs by mixing in midnight sleep powder instead of sleep-inducing powder as instructed. The Young Master isn't blaming you, yet you still have the nerve to come and ask questions. No sleep for tonight; go practice martial arts!” Qingsang glared at Qingquan.
Qingquan immediately wilted, whispering, "I didn’t know that the Young Master would give Miss Qianyue sleep-inducing powder..."
Qingsang snorted and sternly said, “Hurry up and go practice!”
Qingquan nodded and walked off with a crestfallen expression.
Medicine Old Man leaned in close to Qing Shang and whispered, "Qing Shang, do you really know something Tell me old man, I’m getting more and more confused about what the Young Noble is thinking. If he wanted to do something with Miss Qianyue, he wouldn’t have drugged her…"
Qing Shang glanced at Medicine Old Man, then looked toward the tightly closed door. Through the window lights, she saw Rong Jing still sitting at the table, unmoving. She withdrew her gaze and sighed softly, "Tomorrow Seventh Prince will be returning to the capital!"
Medicine Old Man was startled, then he said doubtfully, "What does Seventh Prince’s return have anything to do with Young Noble drugging Miss Qianyue"
Qing Shang sighed and lowered her voice, "Old man, haven’t you forgotten that Seventh Prince and Miss Qianyue…"
The expression on Medicine Old Man’s face changed.
"Tomorrow Miss Qianyue is going to Cloud Mist Mountain, which happens to be the route for Seventh Prince’s return. If they run into each other…" Qing Shang wore an anxious look as she said softly, "Young Noble must be afraid. After all, Young Noble missed a lot of opportunities due to his illness over these past ten years… He even once gave up because he thought he was dying soon enough anyway… Now…"
"This really is quite the difficult situation!" Even Medicine Old Man’s old face showed worry as he asked softly, "The emperor recently wanted to recall Seventh Prince, but Seventh Prince refused and said no. How did it suddenly happen that he came back And right at this time"
“Who knows! Probably because the news of Miss Qianyue’s injury spread to Northern Frontier! So Seventh Prince must have returned out of concern. Perhaps the emperor issued a decree again, and Seventh Prince can’t keep refusing the imperial will so he had no choice but to return. After all, Seventh Prince left the capital five years ago, and in the Northern Frontier, he has repeatedly established military accomplishments, and now the entire Northern Frontier is firmly under his control. In addition, days later is the Begging for Skill Festival, followed by Emperor’s 55th birthday, so it isn’t strange that Seventh Prince would return to the capital at this time to wish the emperor a happy birthday.” Qing Shang said.
Medicine Old Man nodded after listening and sighed, "Without the emperor’s approval, Seventh Prince wouldn’t have returned."
"That's right!" Qing Shang nodded.
The Young Noble is probably going to suffer. This person hasn’t even entered the capital yet, but the Young Noble already used Sleepy Powder on Miss Qianyue. If this person enters the capital, won’t the Young Noble then give Miss Qianyue birthed rice cooked into matured rice Medicine Old Man sighed again.
Qing Shang thought that if cooking raw rice into cooked rice were possible, the Young Noble would have done it when he was in the hot spring pool!
"So Seventh Prince is really someone formidable He actually makes our Young Noble so wary" Medicine Old Man couldn’t believe his ears. Throughout his life studying medicinal herbs, he had never married or borne children and lived alone. After being invited to Rong Wangfu to help Rong Jing battle illness after the latter’s serious illness, he had followed him for years and naturally knew Rong Jing well. Who in this world could make him look up to them He hadn’t expected that someone like Seventh Prince would appear, clearly causing Young Noble to lose his composure. This greatly piqued his curiosity.
"Seventh Prince… That person can't be compared with the Young Noble," Qing Shang thought for a moment and asked softly.
“How do you mean they can’t be compared Is he better than the Young Noble” Medicine Old Man inquired.
“It’s not that he is better than the Young Noble,” Qing Shang shook her head.
“Then it means he isn't as good as the Young Noble Why would the Young Noble be afraid then” Medicine Old Man didn’t understand this logic.
"He also isn't less than the Young Noble!" Qing Shang shook her head again.
"Miss Qing Shang, please don’t play around with me," Medicine Old Man was becoming impatient and more curious.
“He… seems to hold an important position in Miss Qianyue’s heart. A place the Young Noble can never compete for,” Qing Shang seemed to be deliberating on her words before uttering this phrase, then added: "Miss Qianyue treats Seventh Prince differently from others."
“Is that so How is she different” Medicine Old Man was even more curious.
"I can’t explain it clearly. When you see Seventh Prince yourself, you’ll understand. In any case, they are different," Qing Shang shook her head. "But Miss Qianyue has amnesia and it’s uncertain whether she will recognize Seventh Prince."
“You’re right, didn’t Miss Qianyue lose her memory She probably doesn’t remember the Seventh Prince! Nowadays I see that Miss Qianyue is very worried about the Young Noble. Why does he still need to worry” Medicine Old Man felt his brain wasn't working properly; he really couldn’t fathom what the Young Noble was thinking.
“If you had seen for yourself how Seventh Prince and Miss Qianyue interacted, you would understand what the Young Noble is afraid of!” Qing Shang looked at Rong Jing's room again. She saw that Rong Jing still sat at the table unmoving. She fell silent and said softly, "Old man, even if we talk more or worry about it, it won’t help. You should go rest now; I’ll take food to Xian Ge."
After this was said, Qing Shang hurriedly walked off into the dark room. Medicine Old Man shook his head and strode off with his hands behind him toward his herb garden.
The courtyard quieted down.
In the room, Rong Jing watched as their figures left, then withdrew his gaze and looked at Yun Qianyue lying on the floor by the door. He then lowered his head to look at his injured arm, gave a bitter smile, got up from where he sat, and walked toward the door.
Is it fear
When did I start being afraid
Am I not afraid
But why did I still give her Sleepy Powder if I didn’t want to see her…
Night Tianyi...
A person who could make him lose his composure...
Finally returned!
As he reached the door, Rong Jing bent down and gently picked up Yun Qianyue. Her body was soft and light like a ball of cotton, but once in his arms, he felt as if she were a vibrant world filled with splendid scenery. Though so light, she was also incredibly heavy.
He let out a soft sigh, lowered his head to kiss her lips lightly, unwilling to part from her. From birth till now, he had been bedridden for ten years, losing both parents early in life and bearing the responsibility of the Rong王府 at an early age. What he could grasp was always scarce; some things were out of reach while others simply weren't worth reaching for. The only exception was this woman in his arms. Even if she was out of reach, he had to strive to hold on.
Even if she would be furious upon waking up and even if she would hate him, even if the sky were to fall one day, he would pay a price that life could not bear... but it mattered naught!
The corners of his lips tightened as he pulled away from her lips slowly. With determined eyes, Rong Jing carried Yun Qianyue and turned back towards the bed.
That night, the room was filled with the scent of Yexue's wine; Yun Qianyue slept soundly without any awareness.
Rong Jing lay beside her and also had a good sleep that night.
The next day, when it was bright outside, Qing Shang softly called out at the door, "Young Master!"
With closed eyes, Rong Jing slowly opened them, his first glance going to Yun Qianyue who was still sound asleep. He asked, "What is it"
"The head steward from the front passed on a message that His Majesty has decreed Prince Seven will return to the capital today. The Crown Prince is at Chancellor’s Mansion looking after Miss Qin and thus can't welcome him back. Fourth Prince is handling the aftermath of the spell cast yesterday afternoon outside the Meridian Gate, while Young Lord Ren is in Duke De's Manor watching over Princess Ye. Therefore, His Majesty has instructed that only you should meet Prince Seven upon his arrival," Qing Shang reported softly.
"Oh" Rong Jing narrowed his eyes slightly.
"His Majesty says Prince Seven is about a hundred miles away and need not rush to welcome him. He will enter the city before dark, so you don't have to leave the capital to greet him; just meet him outside the city gates," Qing Shang continued. "The palace has already dispatched people to repair Prince Seven's mansion. His Majesty informed you that once he arrives and it gets too late to visit the palace, Prince Seven doesn’t need to rush to pay his respects and can rest at home."
"Prince Seven’s mansion" Rong Jing's voice remained indifferent.
"It means for him to return to his own residence first!" Qing Shang's voice suddenly dropped even lower. "Prince Seven’s mansion is next to Cloud Manor."
Rong Jing didn’t say anything further.
"Young Master, shall I tell the palace that you are injured and unable to greet Prince Seven" Qing Shang waited for a while but received no response from Rong Jing, so she asked carefully.
"No need! Tell His Majesty I will be there on time to welcome Prince Seven!" Rong Jing's voice was calm.
"Yes!" Qing Shang answered and then hesitantly added: "Just now, the old王爺of Cloud Manor sent a message through their head steward. Knowing Miss Yun Qianyue stayed at the Rong王府 yesterday night, he asked me to remind you to let her know that she has important matters today."
"Hm!" Rong Jing glanced at sleeping Yun Qianyue and his voice remained devoid of emotion.
"Does Young Master have any instructions" Qing Shang inquired again.
“Has Xiang Ge left the secret room” Rong Jing asked.
"He has already come out!" Qing Shang said.
"Order him to go a hundred miles away to meet Prince Seven and enter the city with him. Tell Prince Seven that I will be waiting outside the city gates for him," Rong Jing instructed.
“Yes!” Qing Shang nodded.
"If there's nothing else, you may leave now!" Rong Jing closed his eyes again.
Qing Shang quietly withdrew. She thought to herself that Prince Seven was waiting about a hundred miles away, likely for Yun Qianyue, but with her unconscious from the Night Scattering Powder and with Young Master sending Xiang Ge off to welcome him back, Prince Seven would have no choice but to return early without her. She sighed inwardly; it must be tough on Young Master.
In the room, Rong Jing opened his eyes, turned his head towards Yun Qianyue who was sleeping peacefully. The wound on her lips had healed overnight, and her complexion looked radiant and clear from a good night's sleep. She slept very still after taking the Night Scattering Powder without kicking or turning over in bed; she behaved perfectly obediently. He smiled, suddenly turned over and covered himself over her body. Lowering his head, he kissed her lips.
The delicate body under him was soft like a boneless doll. Even though she had slept all night, the faint fragrance of Yexue's wine remained on her lips. It stirred his heart; reaching out to untie her clothes, his hand, as smooth as jade, glided over her warm skin and lingered at her waist. With nimble fingers, he hooked her blouse open, revealing two snow-white breasts that popped out gently. His fingertips trembled slightly in the snow-like texture of her chest, before pulling away from her lips to place a kiss on her collarbone...
The fair skin, as smooth as cream, quickly blushed in various places like blooming red plum blossoms, incredibly eye-catching...
The intense sunlight filtered through the curtains and filled the room with a spring-like warmth.
A long time later, Rong Jing suddenly turned over and covered Yun Qianyue with the blanket. He murmured to himself in a breathless tone, feeling both frustrated and sighing, "I really want to continue... but unfortunately, I can't..."
After another long while, Rong Jing pushed aside the blankets, put on his clothes, and left the room.
The sun was already high in the sky outside, with bright sunlight shining everywhere.
He stood at the door, tilting his head upwards to look at the sky. The clouds were nowhere to be seen, and the weather was sunny and gentle. Golden sunlight bathed him, enveloping him in warmth. He then turned his gaze away and suddenly smiled, saying, "I must have really gone mad!"
"Young Master Why are you... laughing" Qingquan had practiced martial arts all night long and now felt very sleepy as he walked back in. Seeing Rong Jing standing at the door with a smile on his face that seemed to come from great joy, he was suddenly wide awake and looked at him puzzledly.
"Where is Old Medicine" asked Rong Jing, smiling.
"Old Medicine is in the herbal garden. Young Master, you're looking for him Should I go fetch him" Qingquan was bewildered by Rong Jing's smile and thought to himself that he never imagined the young master would look like this while laughing.
"Yes! Go find him!" said Rong Jing, nodding his head.
Qingquan immediately responded with a yes and ran off toward the herbal garden as fast as possible.
A short time later, Old Medicine ran over from the herbal garden. Seeing Rong Jing standing at the door smiling contentedly, he looked at him in puzzlement: "Young Master, what do you want to see me about"
The Seventh Prince was almost arriving in the capital city, yet the young master was still so happy Could it be that he is no longer worried about having already made a meal out of Miss Yun Qianyue It wasn't surprising for him to think this way; Rong Jing was quite different from how he had been yesterday. Yesterday his mind seemed unsettled and he looked gloomy, but today he appeared as warm as the sun and as gentle as jade. Such a big change overnight made it impossible not to consider that aspect.
"Give me one of your Soul-Reviving Pills!" said Rong Jing.
"Ah" Old Medicine was surprised. "Young Master, are you going to give Miss Yun Qianyue the Soul-Reviving Pill"
"Yes," nodded Rong Jing.
"Once she takes that medicine, she will wake up immediately." Old Medicine emphasized this point.
"Then so be it!" said Rong Jing with a smile.
"You... you really did turn the uncooked rice into cooked rice" So now he isn't afraid anymore Old Medicine looked at Rong Jing in disbelief.
Rong Jing touched his forehead and shook his head, seemingly finding it difficult to answer. "No!"
"Then why are you..." Old Medicine was disappointed; the young master had missed a wonderful opportunity. How regrettable! Miss Yun Qianyue obviously had feelings for him, otherwise she wouldn't have been so worried about his injury. Once the Seventh Prince returned to the capital city, it would be much harder to turn uncooked rice into cooked rice!
"No need to talk anymore! Give me the medicine!" said Rong Jing, stretching out his hand.
"Young Master, you should think carefully," Old Medicine remained where he was and made a final attempt at persuasion.
Rong Jing smiled lightly. "I've thought about it. Some things and some people aren't something that can be managed with this sort of medicine. Give me the medicine."
Old Medicine seemed to understand but still shook his head; he reached into his clothes and took out a bottle, handing it over to Rong Jing.
Rong Jing accepted it with one hand and turned back toward his room.
Old Medicine sighed and walked out of the courtyard towards the herbal garden.
In the room, Rong Jing approached the window and unscrewed the bottle cap. He poured out a pill and placed it an inch in front of Yun Qianyue's lips, saying softly, "Here, eat this."
Yun Qianyue did not move.
"Since you don't want to take it yourself, then I will feed it to you!" Rong Jing withdrew his hand and put the medicine in his mouth. He bent down and kissed Yun Qianyue's lips.
The medicine dissolved between their mouths; it was extremely bitter, but Rong Jing didn't even wrinkle his brows as if he didn't know what bitterness tasted like.
Yun Qianyue frowned, instinctively dodging Rong Jing's kiss.
No matter how she dodged, Rong Jing's lips never left her. Finally, the pill was swallowed by Yun Qianyue, who had a miserable face twisted into an unpleasant expression.
Rong Jing stopped kissing and instead placed his lips against hers, looking at Yun Qianyue’s bitter little face and chuckled softly. His laughter echoed in the room, sounding very clear and pleasant.
After some time, Yun Qianyue slowly came to her senses, smacking her lips together while her eyebrows knitted into a frown. "So bitter..."
Rong Jing moved away from her body and sat at the head of the bed, smiling at her without speaking.
"It’s so bitter! Rong Jing, what did you give me to eat" Yun Qianyue struggled to open her eyes. Through a hazy vision she saw Rong Jing sitting by the bedside; feeling uncomfortable, she retched but nothing came out. She frowned and asked him.
Rong Jing still remained silent.
"Are you mute" Yun Qianyue rubbed her forehead, feeling disoriented about where or when she was.
Rong Jing seemed to ignore her and continued looking at her.
Yun Qianyue did not speak again; her mind spun with memories until they suddenly froze on the moment before she fainted. She opened her eyes wide, fully waking up, sat abruptly upright, and angrily glared at Rong Jing. "What did you put in my wine"
Rong Jing remained silent.
"Speak! What exactly did you put in the wine How many days is it now" Yun Qianyue leaned forward to grab his neck, not realizing that her clothes were nearly undone and she was exposed. She angrily demanded, "What’s your intention"
“How can I speak like this” Rong Jing suddenly choked on a breath and turned away from her.
Yun Qianyue relaxed her grip slightly and stared fiercely at him, warning him, “You’d better tell me the reason! Otherwise, I won’t let you off today.”
"Cough cough. You…" Rong Jing’s face turned a bit red as his voice was hoarse.
“What ‘you’ Hurry up and speak!” Yun Qianyue was filled with anger. How could she not be wary of him
"You… you put your clothes on first, then I’ll explain it to you slowly." Rong Jing did not look at Yun Qianyue; his voice was gentle.
Yun Qianyue was stunned for a moment and looked down. She suddenly realized that her waist sash had come undone, her face changed color, and she immediately let go of Rong Jing’s hand to pull the blanket over herself. Her complexion went pale as she trembled with anger, yelling at him, "What did you do to me"
Had her vision been that bad that she couldn’t see the marks on her body
Rong Jing looked at Yun Qianyue’s pale face and sighed helplessly. “I didn’t do anything to you!”
"How dare you say you didn't do anything Then what about these kiss marks on my body" Yun Qianyue was angry, seeing Rong Jing sitting properly dressed by the bedside while she looked this way, her face turning red and white with rage. She scolded him, "You're shameless; how dare you…"
"Shh, I really didn’t do anything to you!" Rong Jing covered Yun Qianyue's mouth with his hand, his expression gentle but somewhat awkward as he whispered in a low voice: “I only kissed and hugged you. Yes, and also touched you…”
That was called not doing anything Yun Qianyue was both angry and embarrassed; she waved her hand to remove Rong Jing's grip on her mouth and pointed at him with one finger. After a while of being speechless, she angrily said, "Are you Rong Jing The gentleman who is like jade among people, incomparable in the world—were they talking about you You were also called Heaven’s First Wonder Talent; High Sun Beyond Clouds; Gentlemanly and Elegant Like Jade How can you do such an indecent thing"
"Hmm Did I really live up to what others said" Rong Jing smiled, raising his eyebrows.
Yun Qianyue was momentarily speechless.
Rong Jing leaned closer and reached over the blanket to embrace her. His voice was gentle but somewhat awkward as he said: "Even though I really want to do something more with you, truly, I didn’t do anything inappropriate. If I wanted to do it, when you came for me yesterday while I was in the water, I would have done so; however, I did not."
"Then… then on my body… you…" Yun Qianyue thought about it and realized that her body had no signs of unusual aches or pains. He probably didn't do anything to her. But there were still kiss marks on her body. It meant he definitely took advantage while she was unconscious.
"You lay beside me, I’m not Liu Xiaohui either. Naturally, I would have done something… Actually, right now I want to…" Rong Jing’s lips moved close to Yun Qianyue's as his voice became even hoarser and huskier.
Yun Qianyue trembled, her heart thumping twice; the originally pale little face turned red all over upon hearing such words. She pushed away from him in anger and frustration. "Move away! Explain yourself first! Tell me why you drugged me! If not, I won’t let you touch me ever again!"
She heard his mention of yesterday morning; looking at the bright sunlight outside, she realized it didn’t delay her going to Cloud Mist Mountain to pay respects to her mother. She calmed down a little.
Rong Jing obediently let go of Yun Qianyue and said with a smile: “That wine…”
"Tell me the truth, don't lie or I’ll make you tell," Yun Qianyue stared at Rong Jing.
"Alright, speak the truth!" Rong Jing smiled slightly and said gently: "Yesterday I told you that the wine was a mistake by Medicine Old Man who hastily placed it on the table. When I warned you about the strength of the alcohol, you wouldn’t listen and insisted on drinking it. In reality, Medicine Old Man had put Sleep Powder in the drink, since he has trouble sleeping as an old man. He drinks a jar every night to sleep well. You drank his wine, causing him insomnia last night."
"Is that so" Yun Qianyue raised her eyebrows, clearly disbelieving.
"That’s right! Shall I bring Medicine Old Man here for you to ask him" Rong Jing nodded and looked innocent. "I warned you about the strength of the alcohol. You drank it yourself."
"But why didn’t you tell me there was Sleep Powder in the wine" Yun Qianyue glared at him.
"Medicine Old Man is unmarried, unable to sleep well every night; he uses alcohol as a way of relieving his worries. This has been an illness of his heart for many years. How could I expose his weakness So, I simply said the wine was strong, which was a roundabout way of reminding you. Who would have thought you’d be so insatiable and foolish to drink it Hence, you’re asleep like this," Rong Jing’s face didn’t even turn red as he lied; combined with his innocent expression, one couldn’t help but believe him.
Yun Qianyue carefully studied Rong Jing but found nothing amiss. His words were a reasonable explanation. Her anger subsided somewhat, and she said irritably: "But why is my mouth so bitter"
"This was because Qing Quan wanted to joke with Medicine Old Man and put Midnight Powder in the Sleep Powder he made. The Midnight Powder can make someone sleep for seven or eight days. This morning I saw you were still asleep, afraid it might affect important matters, I asked Medicine Old Man for a soul-restoring pill to counteract your medicine’s effects, which is why you woke up now. Soul-restoring pills are bitter medicines; that’s why your mouth tastes bitter," Rong Jing explained calmly, adding at the end: "I fed it to you myself; my mouth is also bitter now."
"Who asked you to feed me" Yun Qianyue reached for her lips, remembering she had eaten the medicine he gave her and feeling a strange flow of energy throughout her body. She scolded him with blushing cheeks.
“You were too deeply asleep to take your medicine; if you couldn’t take it, you wouldn’t wake up. Not waking up would mean delaying important matters.” Rong Jing raised his eyebrows.
Yun Qianyue was utterly speechless; she had indeed been deeply asleep and knew nothing of what happened. She could only go along with him. She didn't believe that he couldn’t remind her not to drink the wine unless it was intentional, making her sleep in his room for a chance to do as he pleased. Yet she couldn’t really run out looking for Medicine Old Man; as long as it didn’t affect her journey to mourn her mother, everything would be fine. She glared at Rong Jing angrily: "You’re still somewhat reasonable! You knew you had to wake me up quickly or I’d face trouble going to Cloud Mist Mountain."
"How could that happen Grandpa Yun sent people early in the morning to remind me," Rong Jing said with a smile.
Yun Qianyue’s expression changed. "Did my grandfather know I stayed here yesterday"
Rong Jing nodded.
The fiery red on Yun Qianyue's face shifted; she tightened the blanket wrapped around her hands, looking at Rong Jing who was smiling at her with amusement. She wasn’t sure whether to be angry or upset. After a while, somewhat tiredly: "Since you didn’t do anything to me, I’m too lazy to bother now. Go out and let me get dressed."
Rong Jing remained seated and raised his eyebrows slightly as he asked softly, “Do you know how to put on that piece of clothing”
Yun Qianyue choked; her last bit of strength gone. She didn’t! It was too complicated! She despised the jade bracelet; where did they get such a layered dress with sheer fabric and ribbons, more complex than even the one Cloud Muhan gave her!
"I’ve seen your body before anyway, let me help you put it on. If I wanted to do something to you, wouldn’t I have done so already" Rong Jing asked gently. "How about that"
Yun Qianyue held the blanket and didn't move.
"It’s getting late; Cloud Mist Mountain is a hundred miles from the capital. Even if we ride fast horses, it will take two hours. Furthermore, Cloud Mist Mountain is over a thousand feet high; you’ll have to climb up as well. Time isn’t on our side. We can’t afford any delays," Rong Jing added.
"Alright then!" Yun Qianyue pushed away the blanket and saw that under her undershirt was a soft white robe, clearly Rong Jing's nightwear which he had put on her when she fell asleep. Blushing, she glanced at him but didn’t say anything.
Rong Jing seemed to smile lightly as his fingers gently tugged the robe off Yun Qianyue’s body, revealing skin with a faint red flush; he looked deeply into it and softly tied up her undershirt before putting a neatly folded set of clothes on her. His fingertips brushed against her skin slightly, evoking shivers.
Yun Qianyue kept her eyes closed, not daring to look at Rong Jing, her face flushed red as fire.
When had she ever experienced such a situation, letting herself be seen by a man
When had she been so intimate with any man before, allowing them to dress her
When...
The room was silent, only the sound of dressing could be heard. Yun Qianyue felt as if her breath had stopped; Rong Jing’s breathing was barely audible.
A long while later, after he finished helping her get dressed, he looked at Yun Qianyue's flushed face and smiled softly: "It seems you also have fears"
