This day, Yun Qianyue still resided in the Rong王府, but did not sleep all night.
The next morning, Rong Jing and Yun Qianyue left the Rong王府. Instead of heading straight to the imperial palace, they went to the Cloud王府.
At the entrance of the Cloud王府, Cloud王爺had already prepared a lavish gift, ready to set off; there were six large carts filled with gifts, clearly demonstrating Tiānshèng's weighty treatment of Nán Líng Ruì’s ascension to the throne.
Rong Jing and Yun Qianyue arrived in their carriage. Yun Qianyue jumped down from the carriage carrying a wrapped package and handed it to Yu Qingqing, who was dressed as a long-term attendant. She whispered to her, "I sewed this robe for my brother overnight. Don't say it's a gift; just tell him that I feel bad about tearing his sleeve when I slept last time and want to make amends."
Yu Qingqing glared at her and muttered, "You little brat!"
"Tell him that he’s also my brother now as the Nan Liang王爺. Whenever I can't survive in Tiānshèng anymore, he needs to support me. Also, don’t always be soft-hearted just because of Uncle. Some kindness should have limits; too much might not benefit him and could even give others an opportunity," Yun Qianyue added.
Yu Qingqing nodded, "That brat isn't stupid, he knows clearly."
"Father, you and Mother will be away for at least half a month. Be careful on the road; make sure to protect my mother well. I don’t know what intentions Yè Tiānyì has, but whatever his intentions are, your safety comes first. Don't think yourselves invincible—elders shouldn’t fight with younger generations. Think of my brother and me; we’ve been apart for so long. We好不容易見到了你們,彆還冇享受天倫之樂就翹辮子了,那樣的話我不會給你們燒紙的。”雲淺月一本正經地對雲王爺道。
"Dead brat, is this how you curse your father and mother" Yu Qingqing smacked Yun Qianyue on the head.
Cloud王爺stroked her hair with his hand and smiled kindly, "We know that besides running away well, we don't have other merits. We want to live a few more years to see our grandsons and great-grandsons. Rest assured!"
Yun Qianyue coughed lightly; she thought they could have grandchildren first, but not necessarily great-grandchildren...
The Cloud王爺turned towards Rong Jing and patted his hand, "This little girl needs warmth sometimes when cold doesn’t work. Yes, like the time you were angry and destroyed Lan Zǐ's cloak—I think that was quite effective. She shouldn't be spoiled."
"Right, don't spoil her. Don't do everything for her; let her do it herself," Yu Qingqing said in agreement.
Yun Qianyue rolled her eyes and wondered if they were really her parents.
Rong Jing smiled and said warmly, "I won’t spoil her anymore."
Yun Qianyue turned away from them and roughly pulled Rong Jing's hand, somewhat angrily, "Get in the carriage! We can't delay any further; you'll be late for court."
Rong Jing said nothing more and climbed into the carriage with Yun Qianyue.
Xiángē whipped the horsewhip, and their carriage left the Cloud王府.
The Cloud王爺and Yu Qingqing both scolded Yun Qianyue before getting into their prepared carriages; the convoy set off.
Yun Qianyue was still angry as she sat in the carriage. "Rong Jing, are they your parents Am I your wife"
Rong Jing smiled lightly and said, "Probably."
"I've never seen such selling-off-a-daughter parents!" Yun Qianyue complained to Cloud王爺,"A mother-in-law looks at her daughter-in-law and finds her more and more agreeable; that’s fine, but why does my father get involved too"
"In Uncle Yuan's heart, Aunt Qing is first," Rong Jing said slowly.
Yun Qianyue wanted to argue, but had to admit he was right. She pouted like a child but before she could express her displeasure, Rong Jing whispered gently, "You are number one in my heart; you will remain so even after we have children."
Yun Qianyue’s face turned red. "Who wants to have your babies"
Rong Jing looked at her and said, “To make Uncle Yuan and Aunt Qing hold their grandchild as soon as possible, we need to put in some effort.”
Yun Qianyue covered her face with her hand but suddenly let go; she glanced at him with a smile. "You are revered by all under heaven, invincible in the hearts of the people—how amazing! There’s nothing you can’t do; even I admire you. This matter of having babies, can't you handle it alone"
Rong Jing's face darkened as he pulled Yun Qianyue into his arms and lowered his head to look at her. "Uncle Yuan is right—you need more discipline. No more spoiling," he said before leaning in for a firm kiss.
Yun Qianyue made a soft noise, stifling the laughter inside her.
Until Yun Qianyue begged for mercy, Rong Jing finally let her go. His voice was slightly hoarse as he said, "If you misbehave again in the future, there will be ways to punish you."
Yun Qianyue wanted to say something but saw the warning look in Rong Jing's eyes and swallowed her words back while gasping for breath. She laughed quietly, "Actually, I was just asking if there’s anything you can’t do that I... I could manage."
Rong Jing looked at her with a mix of amusement and exasperation. He took out a handkerchief and covered her face with it before saying two words: "Wait!"
Yun Qianyue’s body trembled, realizing that she couldn’t shake him off so easily; better to behave herself! So she remained still under the handkerchief.
The carriage continued on its way. Xiang Ge sat at the front and wanted to laugh but dared not, turning her face red from holding it in.
After some distance, a carriage coming their way greeted Rong Jing’s carriage with Wenhua's voice: "Prince Regent Jing!"
"What is it, Grand Eunuch Wenhua" asked Rong Jing in a gentle tone.
"The Prime Minister said that the fourth prince’s concubine has been ill for several days without improvement. Since Cloud King acknowledged her as his adopted daughter and Miss Yun Qianyue's sister-in-law, it is appropriate to pay her a visit and offer words of comfort," Wenhua carefully explained.
Yun Qianyue’s face immediately darkened in annoyance: "The person she wants to see isn't me; it’s Ye Tianyu. Does the Prime Minister not understand this Has he approved for me to bring her to meet Ye Tianyu"
Wenhua fell silent and dared not speak further.
Yun Qianyue suppressed her anger and asked, "What else did he say"
Wenhua shook his head. "The Prime Minister didn’t mention anything more, only instructing me to convey this message."
Yun Qianyue looked at Rong Jing.
Rong Jing replied gently, "I will take you to the fourth prince’s residence."
Although Yun Qianyue was angry with Ye Tianyi, she felt it appropriate to visit Zhao Kehan. She nodded in agreement.
Rong Jing instructed the driver and the carriage turned towards the fourth prince's residence. Wenhua breathed a sigh of relief before returning to the palace.
The carriage stopped at the gate of the fourth prince’s residence. Rong Jing said to Yun Qianyue, "You’re not a savior; some things are beyond your control. The fourth prince was doomed when he failed his rebellion. Why did the Prime Minister spare him It is as much for political leverage over General Chen's troops and public perception of filial piety towards his elder brother as it is to protect you and shield you."
"I understand," Yun Qianyue nodded.
"If you wish to stay here, then do so today. If not, find me in the palace or return to Glory王府 (Honor Palace) instead." Rong Jing said no more.
Yun Qianyue answered and jumped down from the carriage. As the curtain fell, Rong Jing’s carriage left the fourth prince's residence.
The Prince’s Estate had been heavily guarded since Emperor Taizong’s funeral until now. Presumably, Ye Tianyi must have communicated beforehand with Yun Qianyue because the guards opened the door for her upon seeing her arrive.
Yun Qianyue stepped into the fourth prince's residence. It was only a few days ago but it already appeared desolate and bleak. She still remembered the lively scenes of Ye Tianyu celebrating his birthday when he returned from Qing Shan City to manage waterways, as well as his grand wedding with red silk and blooming flowers everywhere. Now everything inside was cold and quiet.
She didn’t see many servants on her way in; they must have all been dismissed that day Ye Tianyu’s rebellion began. A few loyal ones had stayed behind.
A servant girl in rough clothes greeted Yun Qianyue, with red-rimmed eyes and called out, "Miss Yun!"
Recognizing the maid Hailing who served by Ye Tianyu’s side, Yun Qianyue nodded to her and asked, "Where is Sister Zhao"
"The concubine's condition isn't good. The imperial physician has visited twice already but it didn’t help; she continues coughing," Hailing whispered.
“Take me to see her,” Yun Qianyue instructed.
Hailing nodded and led Yun Qianyue into the inner courtyard. They arrived at Ye Tianyu’s main hall, pushing open the door to reveal a pungent smell mixed with intense coughing sounds that made one cringe.
Yun Qianyue quickly entered the chamber where she saw Zhao Kehan lying on the bed; in just a few days, she had become so thin her bones were visible and her face was pale without any blood color, barely recognizable. Yun Qianyue’s expression changed as she called out, "Sister Zhao!"
Zhao Kehan paused in her coughing, nodded slightly before continuing to cough.
"Quickly pour a glass of water!" Yun Qianyue instructed海棠.
Haitang immediately poured a cup of water and brought it to the bedside. Yun Qianyue reached out to take it, then patted Zhao Kehan's back to help her breathe easier. After quite some time, she finally stopped coughing and whispered, "Moon Sister, you’ve finally arrived. I was so afraid that if I closed my eyes, I wouldn’t wake up again."
Yun Qianyue checked her pulse with a changed expression, asking, "How could this be"
Zhao Kehan shook her head and looked at Yun Qianyue. Her voice was hoarse as she said weakly, "I don’t know either…"
"You actually…" Yun Qianyue’s hand trembled slightly. Zhao Kehan's pulse resembled that of someone on their last breath; wasn't the old emperor only dead for over a month She was such a strong woman, enduring immense pressure to marry Ye Tianyu despite knowing what her fate would be, but could she not withstand these few days without him
"Moon Sister, I’m not as strong as you think. Loving someone truly leaves me no choice. Especially when I clearly know that there's no good ending for them, yet I still fly towards the flames. Since marrying him and then experiencing a miscarriage, my heart has been troubled every day since then. Now without needing a doctor to tell me, I already know that I’m at the end of my life." Zhao Kehan explained.
Yun Qianyue’s eyes welled up with tears; she remembered Qin Yuning had martial arts skills and could withstand the toxins from purple grass miscarriage, but Zhao Kehan didn’t have inner strength. Added to her troubled heart without timely recuperation, it led to this point of no return. She expressed regret: "If only I’d arrived earlier! I thought you were strong; I never expected…"
"Although this place is sealed off, I've heard some news from the outside too. The Regent threatened with thousands of lives for you. Even if you came early, it’s not certain that you would be able to get in." Zhao Kehan shook her head.
Yun Qianyue pursed her lips and stood up: "Rong Jing has a thousand-year-old lingzhi fungus. I’ll go get it for you now."
Zhao Kehan held Yun Qianyue’s hand, shaking her head: "I know my own body; there's no cure left. Even the thousand-year-old lingzhi won’t help. Please don't waste it."
"Don’t you want to see Ye Tianyu one last time" Yun Qianyue looked at her.
Zhao Kehan’s expression darkened.
“I’ll take you to see him now! Even if I have to break into the Ministry of Justice prison, I will make sure you see him.” Yun Qianyue held Zhao Kehan tightly and tried to carry her away.
"No." Zhao Kehan shook her head. Yun Qianyue’s hand paused; she whispered, "I don’t need to see him! Being able to marry him and spend some time with him already satisfies me. If I were to see him now like this, how could he continue living" After a moment, she said softly: “I want him to live on.”
Yun Qianyue slowly let her go; it was so difficult for her to watch such an intelligent and understanding woman die. She recalled Rong Jing’s words that she wasn’t a savior and there were things beyond her control. At the time, Yun Qianyue thought he feared Zhao Kehan would plead with her to take her to see Ye Tianyu, so he reminded her in advance not to do it, but what was actually meant was that even if she had miraculous abilities over life and death, there were limits to what she could achieve.
“Moon Sister, promise me you’ll find a way for him to live on! I only hope one day he can be free from prison and pay respects to my grave. That would make me happy.” Zhao Kehan’s grip on Yun Qianyue's hand trembled as she said softly: “He is just nineteen; his life has much ahead of it. Living means there’s hope, but death leads to nothingness. I wish to stay with him, yet my body fails me…”
Yun Qianyue pursed her lips tightly.
"Promise me, okay Even if it means rebirth as an ox or a horse…" Zhao Kehan begged Yun Qianyue.
Suppressing her tears, Yun Qianyue nodded: "There’s no need for you to be reborn as an animal. I promise, I’ll make sure he lives well. What are the江山or that chair worth compared to life Life means seeing sunrises and enjoying sunsets; it allows him to cruise on lakes or watch snow and moonlight. Death leads only to a mound of earth and ashes forgotten after a few years."
Zhao Kehan said softly, "If possible, let him marry a good woman early in life; I don’t want him to be alone for the rest of his life and wait for him on the Yellow Springs Road. Loving someone is exhausting. In my next life, I won't love again, but if it's possible, may I ask that he loves me"
"Someone as good as you will surely have a next life." Yun Qianyue held her hand.
Zhao Kehan smiled; her pale face seemed to glow. Soon after, she slowly closed her eyes and the strength in her grip faded.
Yun Qianyue’s expression changed dramatically as she pushed her: "Sister Zhao!"
Zhao Kehan remained still with closed eyes.
Haitang immediately burst into tears, “Madame Concubine…”
Yun Qianyue was shocked beyond belief; she didn’t expect to come for Zhao Kehan’s final farewell and hear her last wishes. The warmth of the body next to her had only moments ago been coughing and speaking to her, calling her "Moon Sister," pleading for Ye Tianyu's life, yet now it was gone—she couldn’t accept this sudden change as her body trembled.
"Miss Yun Qianyue… The concubine knew several days ago that she would not survive. She held on just to wait for you and share all her instructions with you; otherwise…" Haitang choked up.
Yun Qianyue’s eyes originally filled with tears but suddenly became dry and tearless.
It seemed like a long while, or perhaps the time it takes to drink tea, before Yun Qianyue suddenly stood up and walked out.
"Miss Yun Qianyue…" Haitang subconsciously called after her.
Yun Qianyue stopped walking and looked back at海棠(Haitang) saying, "I will come to bury her later."
Haitang nodded with tears in her eyes.
Yun Qianyue walked out. Her footsteps left deep imprints on the ground. She had been here countless times before, but over two months ago she had helped促成(Night Tianqin) to arrange the marriage between Night Tianyu and Zhao Kehan. Now, of the original four people, only two were dead, one was in prison, and only she stood there.
When she arrived at the front gate of the Fourth Prince's Manor, Night Qingnuan’s carriage just happened to arrive as well. Upon seeing Yun Qianyue, she happily shouted, "Moon Sister, I was just about to go in to find you when you came out."
Yun Qianyue looked at Night Qingnuan; the young woman was petite and bright, with a sunny disposition and an innocent heart. Life was so beautiful, but some people would never be able to enjoy it again. Suddenly closing her eyes, she waved her hand to sever the reins of Night Qingnuan’s carriage horses. She then leaped onto one of them, spurring the horse forward as it galloped off towards the palace without a word.
The carriage shook and crashed into the ground, leaving Night Qingnuan pale with disbelief. Seeing Yun Qianyue ride her horse to the direction of the palace, she turned to ask the guards at the gate, "What’s wrong with Sister Yun"
All the guards shook their heads in unison.
No one stopped Night Qingnuan as she hurriedly exited the carriage and walked into the manor. She continued walking towards the inner courtyard.
The wailing of a woman could be heard from within the courtyard, causing Night Qingnuan’s expression to change. Seizing hold of a maidservant, she asked, "What happened"
"The concubine… She just passed away…" The maid sobbed.
Night Qingnuan was startled and rushed inside but then remembered something and quickly ran back to the gate. She instructed one of the soldiers, "Quickly, bring me a horse; I also need to go into the palace."
The soldier immediately went to fetch a horse for her. Soon after, she leaped onto it and raced towards the palace.
That morning, people on the streets saw two horses galloping past at lightning speed, one purple like rosy clouds and another white as snow.
The chilly wind sliced across Yun Qianyue’s face but she seemed unaffected. People hurriedly made way for her horse as it thundered down the street; those who couldn’t avoid it were lightly brushed aside by her.
Soon, she arrived at the palace gates where she didn’t dismount and rode straight in.
The Imperial Guards at the gate were stunned. Yun Qianyue had always been arrogant but they’d never seen her ride into the palace grounds before. The palace was a symbol of imperial authority, with the saying "civil officials should get off their carriages, military officials should dismount from their horses" at its gates. Exchanging glances, Zhao, the captain of the Imperial Guards, immediately led his men to chase after Yun Qianyue.
Yun Qianyue rode straight into the Hall of Deliberation and leaped down from her horse before rushing inside.
The hall was empty except for a few young eunuchs. She remembered that it should be time for court, so she turned around and headed towards the Golden Throne Hall.
Entering the Golden Throne Hall, she walked straight in.
The guards at the entrance tried to攔住(impede) her when they saw her entering but Yun Qianyue flicked a hand and sent them flying. With an indifferent expression, she entered the hall.
The dragon throne was empty while a seat had been set up beneath it for Regent Prince Night Tianyi. Below him stood the civil and military officials. Rong Jing was in the first position on the left side of the hall, with Duke De occupying the right. Everyone present at court turned to look when they heard Yun Qianyue enter but froze upon seeing her cold expression.
Prince Night Tianyi raised his head from its slight tilt as he looked towards Yun Qianyue.
Rong Jing slowly turned to face her with a hint of understanding and compassion in his eyes.
Yun Qianyue walked steadily, each step clear. The hall was silent except for the sound of her footsteps. She moved past everyone with an air of coldness.
"Sister Yun, what are you doing here" Duke De asked.
Ignoring him, she headed straight towards Night Tianyi.
"Little girl, what do you want to do" Night Qingran reached out to grab Yun Qianyue.
Sweeping his hand aside, a powerful force caused Night Qingran not only to fail in grabbing her but also to be pushed back two steps. The two ministers standing next to him were knocked over by the shockwave.
"Sister!" Yun Li shouted but seeing that Rong Jing hadn’t moved, he didn’t rush forward either.
"Miss Qianyue, this is the Golden Hall. Is there anything you need..." The Filial Prince at this moment also opened his mouth.
Cloud Qianyue blinked not once, staring tightly at Ye Tianyi sitting above as she walked towards him step by step.
"Prince Jing, this..." Prince Te looked at Rong Jing.
Rong Jing was as if he had heard nothing.
As Cloud Qianyue passed Rong Jing without stopping, he did not reach out to stop her either. He watched her ascend the golden steps and stand in front of Ye Tianyi. She exuded an icy chilliness with a cold expression while Ye Tianyi was expressionless, his eyes dark as he sat still on the chair. After a moment, Cloud Qianyue suddenly reached out, releasing a powerful gale force.
"Little girl!"
"Miss Qianyue!"
"Regent King!"
Everyone shouted in shock, their eyes wide as they watched Cloud Qianyue. Ye Qingran had already flown over to intercept her but was gently brushed back by Rong Jing's movement of his sleeve, a great force blocking him. Others who wanted to step forward were also stopped by this invisible powerful force and couldn't get any closer.
Ye Qingran's face turned pale as he angrily said, "Rong Jing, what are you doing"
Rong Jing didn't even glance at Ye Qingran, his gaze turning to the steps above.
Ye Tianyi seemed not to feel Cloud Qianyue's powerful force. He neither dodged nor avoided her but remained seated still.
In an instant, the golden chair at the very top that had been unoccupied for ages shattered with a loud bang, its pure gold body turning into pieces of gold rolling down the steps with a clattering noise.
Everyone was in shock as they watched the chair where each imperial ruler of the Heavenly Saint Dynasty had sat for over a hundred years turn to rubble. They were already unable to shout and many people's eyes were wide open like copper bells.
Cloud Qianyue withdrew her hand, coldly looking at Ye Tianyi as she said with each word deliberate, "Ye Tianyi, Zhao Kehan is dead!"
Ye Tianyi nodded his head. His dark eyes seemed to have no light in them, "Her body had run out of oil and the candle was extinguished today."
"I destroyed Heavenly Saint's golden chair. Do you also want to throw me into the Ministry of Justice Or carry out an execution right here" Cloud Qianyue’s gaze had already frozen over. “To show your supreme status as Regent King”
Ye Tianyi shook his head and said coolly, "This chair has been around for a hundred years. I was planning to destroy it long ago. You coming to destroy it is just right."
The crowd became even more shocked, not daring to believe their eyes as they looked at Ye Tianyi. Prince Te and Filial Prince and several old ministers swayed.
Cloud Qianyue suddenly smiled but there wasn't a hint of mirth in her eyes. "Do you want to kill Ye Tianyu now"
"I spared his life with much effort. Could it be that because his concubine died I must kill him Zhao Kehan's death stemmed from herself." Ye Tianyi said solemnly.
“Indeed, on the surface her body is weak and frail but actually She was scheming for a broken chair, plotting to spill blood with a coup. How many lives did she sacrifice” Cloud Qianyue looked at him, "Today you either kill Ye Tianyu or never again!"
Ye Tianyi's gaze turned dark. “Moon, in what capacity are you saying this to me"
Cloud Qianyue squinted her eyes as she stared at him.
"If you say it in the capacity of Regent King’s wife, I will consider it. If not, perhaps I can't promise. Fourth Brother's life is one I saved. His survival and death are up to my discretion. Not killing today doesn’t mean not killing tomorrow." Ye Tianyi looked at her. "Is his affection for you deep enough that we have known each other for a decade"
"Very well! Then let us make an oath here!" Cloud Qianyue coldly watched him as she raised her hand towards the sky, “Above my head there are deities watching over. I hereby swear to protect Ye Tianyu's life from today onwards till death. If anyone dares to kill him, it’s like killing me. I will destroy their lives and never rest until they are dead."
Ye Tianyi watched her solemnly. "Moon, when did Fourth Brother also become someone you feel so fond of"
"Ye Tianyi, you should know me very well, so the best would be for you not to kill him." Cloud Qianyue said one sentence and no longer looked at him as she turned around and walked out of the Golden Hall.
No officials inside the hall dared to stop her or say anything. The hall once again fell silent without anyone in it.
Cloud Qianyue left the Golden Hall just like when she came, exuding a coldness as she stepped out. As her figure disappeared at the entrance of the hall, a chilling icy atmosphere still lingered inside.
Everyone looked at Ye Tianyi, and Ye Qingran pursed his lips tightly. Duke De, Duke Xiao, Leng Shaozhuo, Yun Li, and others remained silent.
A moment later, Ye Tianyi put away his cold expression, and waved his hand leisurely, "Someone, clean up this place!"
Wan Lei immediately responded and brought people to clean the area. The gold blocks from the golden chair were swept into a dustpan with a clattering noise.
"These gold pieces can be used for disaster relief! Father Emperor and our ancestors in heaven will surely be pleased." Ye Tianyi said.
No one spoke.
"How do you feel about this, Jun Shizi" Ye Tianyi looked at Rong Jing, raising his eyebrows.
"Of course it's good!" Rong Jing responded in a warm and calm tone.
"Then let's decide on that!" Ye Tianyi made the decision with authority. He then looked down at the civil and military officials, "Which minister has just presented his petition Continue!"
A minister from the Ministry of Revenue immediately stepped forward.
Cloud Qianyue’s destruction of the golden chair was glossed over lightly. After Wan Lei had cleaned everything up, the officials continued their early court session. Except for the empty chair missing at the top of the Golden Hall, everything remained as before, making people almost feel like Cloud Qianyue hadn’t just appeared in the Golden Hall.
When Cloud Qianyue left the Golden Hall, she saw Ye Qingnuan, Commander Zhao, and hundreds of imperial guards waiting outside.
Ye Qingnuan stepped forward to greet her cautiously. "Cloud Sister, you…"
Cloud Qianyue stopped in her tracks, glanced at Ye Qingnuan, then said with a cold, calm voice, "This capital isn’t a good place; it’s not as nice as Warm City. If there's no special reason, it would be better to return to Warm City." With that, she ignored Ye Qingnuan and continued walking towards the palace gate.
Ye Qingnuan stared blankly at Cloud Qianyue. She wanted to follow her but felt unable to move.
When Cloud Qianyue arrived at the palace gate, Xiang Ge greeted her and whispered, "Miss Qianyue, Jun Shizi just instructed me by telepathic communication. Should I take you to the Fourth Prince's residence for his concubine’s funeral"
"Alright," Cloud Qianyue responded softly as she got into a carriage.
Xiang Ge flicked the whip, and the carriage left the palace gate.
Inside the carriage, Cloud Qianyue leaned against the wall. She covered her face with her hand but still felt no tears; her eyes were dry, as was her heart. Yet she seemed to clearly feel blood gushing somewhere. She had once said that she would never mourn for others again during Ye Tianqing’s funeral, yet unexpectedly, not long after, she found herself doing the same thing.
A mass of something in her chest felt like it was being hacked and chopped by knives until they were completely shattered.
The carriage arrived at the Fourth Prince's residence. The heavily guarded soldiers guarding the Fourth Prince's residence had already withdrawn upon receiving news that his concubine had died, making the place look even more desolate.
Rong Xi led people to wait for her and said when he saw Cloud Qianyue get out of the carriage, "Cloud Sister, I received Jun Shizi’s instructions to help with the funeral."
Cloud Qianyue nodded and walked into the Fourth Prince's residence as Rong Xi followed.
Shortly after, Seventh Princess arrived at the Fourth Prince's residence in tears.
Half an hour later, Ye Qingnuan appeared at the Fourth Prince’s residence. Although she did not shed tears, her expression was filled with sorrow.
This day saw the Fourth Prince's heavily guarded residence hung with mourning pennants and a mortuary built up. Cloud Qianyue personally helped Zhao Kehan change into new clothes and watched as she was placed in a coffin before covering it herself.
As Zhao Kehan was merely the Fourth Prince’s concubine and an illegitimate one at that, apart from Yun Shizi, Seventh Princess, and Ye Qingnuan, no one came to mourn her.
At noon, Rong Xi found an auspicious time through the Imperial Astronomical Bureau. Three days later was set for the funeral.
In the afternoon, Regent Prince Ye Tianyi issued a decree stating that "Fourth Prince’s consort Zhao Kehan was endowed with all martial and literary virtues, wise and perceptive upon birth, alone and pure at death. Posthumously granted the title of Fourth Princess Consort, to be buried in the imperial mausoleum."
When Cloud Qianyue heard this edict, she remained expressionless. Zhao Kehan didn’t even want to see Ye Tianyu again; she wouldn’t wait for him on the Yellow Springs road and would not love him in her next life. So how could she care whether or not she was a primary consort
In the afternoon, after everything had been arranged properly, Seventh Princess and Ye Qingnuan couldn't stand the cold outside and tried to persuade Cloud Qianyue separately but seeing that she remained unmoved, they left the Fourth Prince’s residence one by one.g that Yun Shangyue had spoken up, Night Qiyuan no longer said anything and turned around in a somewhat disgruntled mood to sit back down with the other guests."No wonder there are rumors outside that...
