Mu Qingfeng rushed to Qin Quan軒 when Bai Qianye and Chu Xi were lying on the ground. There was a shocking pool of blood under Bai Qianye, and Qi Lin stood not far from him.

"Are you alright" Mu Qingfeng walked over, took off his coat and put it around Qi Lin's shoulders. He then noticed that Qi Lin was trembling. Looking at the critically wounded Bai Qianye, Mu Qingfeng said, "Have you made up your mind"

Qi Lin turned to look at Mu Qingfeng, speaking softly, "I’ve already decided long ago. As long as you’re willing to take me away, I’ll leave without hesitation."

Mu Qingfeng quietly observed Qi Lin; there wasn’t even a trace of doubt or emotion in her eyes.

"Alright then, let's go now." After saying this, he pulled Qi Lin’s hand and said, "The place you want to find, I’ve already found it. If you can return, I’ll wish you well. If not, I’m willing to travel the world with you, never to return."

Qi Lin nodded her head and followed Mu Qingfeng out of the palace without another glance at Bai Qianye.

However, as Qi Lin stepped out of the palace gate, a sharp pain seized her heart, nearly causing her to faint. Fortunately, Mu Qingfeng steadied her.

A moment after they left, Zi Yin walked over slowly and looked at Bai Qianye, asking, "Is this what you wanted"

"If she'll be happier like this, I’ll let her go." Bai Qianye slowly got up from the ground and glanced at the hairpin on his chest. "Today’s events made me realize that the time has come."

He had already discovered that Qi Lin was communicating with Mu Qingfeng through prayers and had read their letters; they were asking him to take her away.

He would have liked nothing more than to kill Mu Qingfeng, cutting off Qi Lin’s escape route. But doing so would make Qi Lin leave forever, which he couldn’t bear after taking too much from her already.

Hence, he was gambling on the fact that Qi Lin wouldn’t want to leave him. Thus, when Qi Lin handed him a flute laced with Wushisan powder and he didn’t refuse, when she stabbed his chest and he didn’t stop her, and when she left and he didn’t hold onto her—it was because he believed she couldn’t escape his grasp.

"Even if they’re at the ends of the earth, I’ll still be in control. I can surely keep her by my side." Bai Qianye pulled out the hairpin, quickly stopping the bleeding and said with a snort, "If you had stabbed to the right, I might have really died."

Unfortunately for him, his heart was on the left.

He remembered what he told Qi Lin before. Yet even knowing this, she still chose to stab elsewhere That was enough.

"Have you thought about where Mu Qingfeng’s talking about" Zi Yin started bandaging Bai Qianye's wound; originally, he wanted to destroy the white jade hairpin but Bai Qianye snatched it away and took out another identical hairpin from his sleeve.

Bai Qianye carefully examined the hairpins without paying attention to what Zi Yin was saying. He said nonchalantly, "From where she came, to where she will go, I’ve already made arrangements."

But just as he was speaking, Bai Qianye suddenly grabbed Zi Yin's hand and, as if having an idea, rushed out.

How could he have forgotten that the place Mu Qingfeng mentioned was somewhere that allowed Qi Lin to return home and feel at ease. He had always assumed it was White Tiger Mountain, but he was wrong; it might very well be the place Qi Lin mentioned, a place she could go back to.

With the right time and conditions, Qi Lin would likely leave this world and return to her own world.

This was a world beyond his reach, one he would never find again.

"If you regret it, I'll send you back," Mu Qingfeng softly said. "Would that do"

Qi Lin turned around and quietly looked at him, saying, "Do I look like someone who regrets"

Mu Qingfeng smiled slightly when he heard the prayer's words; it truly shocked him that Qi Lin intended to leave Bai Qianye. It was almost impossible for her to do so, but she had come here nonetheless. When he saw Bai Qianye lying on the ground, he was even more astonished.

Once Qi Lin got into the carriage, she didn't speak anymore; however, her gaze remained fixed outside the window, though expressionless yet carrying a faint sadness.

The last palace gate was now visible. Suddenly, Qi Lin's heart began to thump violently. As soon as she stepped out of this place, she would be free. If she returned to that place, she might return home.

Although it had seemed impossible to go back to the twenty-first century and she had long since given up hope, when Bai Qianye mentioned that place, Qi Lin secretly asked Mu Qingfeng to search for information about it. She never expected him to find anything at all.

After she woke up, knowing that Chi Yuan was learning commerce under Mu Qingfeng's tutelage, she had Chi Yuan pass on a message to Mu Qingfeng and ask for him to look into the legends of that place in the mortal world.

Although the information was fragmentary, one detail caught Qi Lin’s attention. That place would see a night-long thunderstorm every nine years and nine months. When red lightning appeared, a crack would open up in the sky; crossing it would allow one to ascend to immortality.

Making calculations, she had been here for nine years, with only over a month left until the ninth month of that year. Even though there was still more than a month left, Qi Lin couldn't wait until then because today was when all palace gates would be open as envoys from various countries came to pay homage and tribute; everyone would gather in one place, leaving no time for anyone to notice her.

She had planned this assassination of Bai Qianye long ago. She knew that ordinary poisons wouldn't work on him so she got her hands on Wu Shisan. Even if Bai Qianye was incredibly powerful, it would take a full hour before he recovered from taking the antidote. But that hairpin was for her child; even if it meant her life, whether he lived or died after this didn't matter to her at all.

This was exactly what she wanted.

"Go~"

With the coachman's command, the horses neighed loudly. The carriage jolted, but fortunately Mu Qingfeng had held onto Qi Lin and prevented her from hitting it.

"Thank you." Qi Lin said a word of thanks and quietly watched at the door. Even though she was behind the door, she could sense an icy chill that seemed to seep through the door, almost as if she could see Bai Qianye outside and imagine his expression.

She had never expected him to be able to easily deal with even a substance so feared as Wu Shisan (Five Stones Powder).

"Wait for me." Mu Qingfeng flicked his hand, sealing Qi Lin's acupoints, then walked out.

The snow was heavier than before and it could obscure one's vision.

Mu Qingfeng stood atop the carriage and smiled at the man sitting on the horse. A cold light pierced through the snow towards him but Mu Qingfeng stood his ground.

When the sword tip reached the center of his forehead, it suddenly stopped. Mu Qingfeng smiled and said, "Brother Yuwood, you seem to be well."

"I only want her to stay," Bai Qianye replied coldly, "You can leave."

Mu Qingfeng sized up Bai Qianye: He was still wearing a thin white robe but it had been stained red in one large area around his left chest. Half of the fabric on that side was almost soaked with blood and perhaps because he had used qinggong (lightness kungfu), he was still bleeding from the wound. His lips were turning blue, ashen pale, and if this continued, all his blood would dry up.

"I have been entrusted to do something for someone else; how could I abandon it midway Even you, Brother Yuwood, will have to excuse me." Mu Qingfeng drew out his own sword: a short red sword with an unusually wide blade. The edge was black and exuded heat so that the snowflakes around it melted before they even touched its blade.

Bai Qianye frowned slightly then said, "Well done, Young Master Mu! I suppose this is made from blood ore of the Ruby Kingdom. Do you know what name you've given it"

"No matter how precious an object is, it's still a trinket in the end; I call it Duan Chen and hope that it will not be disturbed by mundane affairs. Doing as one pleases should suffice," Mu Qingfeng said slowly. "I brought this out just to scare off our enemies."

"As far as I know, once someone is cut with Duan Chen, the flames within the sword burn them too and without the unique antidote of the Ruby Kingdom royal family, that person will die in three days due to blood loss. Even if they get the antidote, they will still cough up blood day and night for no more than three years." Bai Qianye smiled slightly as he sheathed his sword, then walked forward: "How about we make a deal"

"What are you talking about"

Bai Qianye smiled slightly but Mu Qingfeng frowned.

In the end, Mu Qingfeng stood in the snow watching as the carriage gradually moved further away until Qi Lin walked over. Only then did he sheath his sword.

"Young Master, my sister..."

"Let's go; she doesn't belong to us." Mu Qingfeng laughed cheerfully and set off, but then added: "Even three years from now, I know that I won't be able to take her away."

Qi Yuan stared blankly at Mu Qingfeng, then looked at the path leading to the imperial palace. The wheel marks on the ground were slowly covered by snow. Qi Yuan sighed and waved his hand.

Sister, goodbye.

When the carriage stopped, Bai Qianye pushed open the door and got in.

Qi Lin was carried back to her room by Bai Qianye; her clothes were stained with his blood. Even the air smelled of blood.

"From now on, I won't let you out of my sight," said Bai Qianye as he touched Qi Lin's cold cheek. "Even if your heart is dead, I'll still want your body."

"Then my body will have daily intentions to kill you. If I can't do it today, I'll find an opportunity tomorrow to stab you again." Qi Lin smiled coldly and said, "You are human, not a god; you cannot control everything."

"I just need to be able to control you," Bai Qianye said with a dismissive smile as he leaned against Qi Lin's chest, hugging her waist tightly. "You are everything."

Qi Lin quietly looked at the camellia in the corner; she didn't know what method Bai Qianye had used to make it bloom so vibrantly instead of withering.

In the days that followed, Qi Lin was under house arrest. She could previously move around the courtyard, but now, her movements were restricted because Bai Qianye had immobilized her by striking certain acupoints; she also had palace maids to serve her. But since returning, she hadn't seen Bai Qianye. The servants only asked if she wanted something to eat and said nothing else—Zhou Xi was nowhere in sight.

This went on for fifteen days.

The next time Qi Lin saw Bai Qianye was when the maids were leading her to a bathhouse; he appeared like a ghost behind her.

He dismissed everyone and gently helped Qi Lin undress. Whenever he saw the red marks on her neck, his demeanor would become unusually gentle.

"Tomorrow I'll bring in another batch of suitable people who won't hurt you," said Bai Qianye softly as he lifted Qi Lin, dressed her in undergarments, dried her hair, and led her to bed. "You're truly beautiful."

"No matter how beautiful one is, there will come a day when they age." Qi Lin looked at Bai Qianye expressionlessly; she noticed that in just fifteen days he had become thinner, his cheekbones more prominent, and his complexion bloodless.

Qi Lin could also feel the abnormally cold hand on her face—it hadn't been this cold before.

Bai Qianye stared at Qi Lin for a long time before slowly lying beside her and embracing her.

"I will grow old with you; I won’t let you leave me before that happens."grabbed a vine and pulled, causing the vine in her hand to snap and fall to the ground. However, when she looked up again, she saw something about the size of a fist quickly approaching her head. Befo...
